oneeyeblink > A very early morning shot of one of the two Road-side Hawks living on the property behind Noel's backyard. They occasionally take song birds that visit his feeders but the locals are generally pretty savvy to their ways. He knows I'm photographing him I think.
oneeyeblink > lineated Woodpecker in San Isidro, Costa Rica. On a snag in the property behind Noels backyard. Noel has an amazing shot of this guy with its mate on his website "Tropical Feathers" in the bird photos section.
oneeyeblink > Voilaceous Trogon at Los Cusingos right outside David Scutchs place which is now a reserve and museum.
His house is intact, just the way it was when he wrote all those books about the birds of Coata Rica. He wrote the definitive guide to birds of C.R. and Central America along with many others about bird behavior and habits.
He has/had a very charming writing style, very accessible and with out condescension.
oneeyeblink > One of two Orchard Oriole that stopped by for a visit in Noels back yard in San Isidro, Costa Rica.
oneeyeblink > juvenile White-ruffed Manakin at Los Cusingos, Costa Rica. This guy was at the same Army ant party as the two squabbling Woodcreepers.
oneeyeblink > Tawny-winged Woodcreeper at Los Cusingos, Costa Rica.
This guy was at the same party as the Ruddy Woodcreeper. The party being a largish army ant trail. Lots of birds feasting on the terrified insects trying to escape the ant hordes.
Both the Ruddy and Tawny-winged Woodcreepers took exception to each others presence so got into a big squabble. There was pushing and shoving and everything.
oneeyeblink > Ruddy Woodcreeper at Los Cusingos, Costa Rica. Noel was really excited about seeing this guy since they aren't all that common. Of course I didn't know that and promptly got excited too.
It was following an Army ant trail feasting on the escaping insects.
oneeyeblink > Buff-rumped Warbler at Tallari, Costa Rica. This guy was pretty cocky. I didn't know how cocky until we saw him attack and harass an eight foot Boa Constrictor. He jumped on the Boa and sassed it, making a huge racket until it turned tail and left. The boa that is.
oneeyeblink > Slate-throated Redstart up at San Gerardo De Rivas, Costa Rica. Almost all the shots up there were taken on Noels property. Up near the trail head for Chirripo National Park. I believe it spans the Costa Rica/Panama border. An amazing place.
